April 5 Letter to Families

April 5th, 2020

Dear Keeler Families,
We hope you had a wonderful spring break and used this time of social distancing to reconnect with your family at home.  No doubt you and your children are looking forward to our next steps of learning!
By now you have received a CBE Communication letting you know of our plans to move learning to an online format. As you can imagine, this is a new way of working and we ask that you be patient as teachers work on a steep learning curve over the next few weeks. Tomorrow, we will call/email you with our initial plans for online learning and how we will support families where that is not possible. In the meanwhile, please continue to access the CBE resources previously shared: https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/curriculum/learning-at-home/Pages/k-6.aspx
I also want to remind parents of the guidelines set out by Alberta Education: https://www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?xID=69874B5C32DE7-C7B9-FAFF-518A0FF91DCFD41D
  • Kindergarten – Grade 3
    • Education content will focus on language/literacy and mathematics/numeracy outcomes of the provincial curriculum.
    • an average of (5) hours of work per student per week
  • Grade 4 – 6
    • Language/literacy and mathematics/numeracy outcomes, with opportunity to incorporate science and social studies outcomes through cross-curricular learning
      • An average of five (5) hours of work per student per week
On Monday April 6th & Tuesday April 7th, you will begin to receive your first communication from your child’s teacher.  Teachers will be reaching out to you through email or phone to check in and ensure you have what you need to begin this work. It is important that we maintain very good communication and our goal is to ensure regular teacher contact/connections.  If you require an interpreter for emails or phone calls, please don’t hesitate to let your child’s teacher know and we will work to make these arrangements.
Please note that the teacher phone calls may be coming from a blocked number as many are working from home.
Thank you for your patience and we look forward to sharing our next steps shortly.

Sincerely,
Kenny Yeung
Principal
